MILC COLLABORATES WITH UNIVERSITY OF HAGEN, GERMANY
We are pleased to announce a new collaboration today. From now on we are working together with the Department of Multimedia and Internet Applications of the Fernuniversität Hagen in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science (https://www.fernuni-hagen.de/multimedia-internetanwendungen/).
The FernUniversität in Hagen is Germany’s only state distance-learning university, and its largest in terms of student numbers. Its flexible degree programs and continuing education options make higher education accessible to students in a variety of life situations. Its five faculties conduct a wide range of theoretical and applied research in their subject areas of Humanities and Social Sciences, Psychology, Mathematics and Computer Science, Economics and Business Administration, and Law.

This will support basic research in the field of human-machine communication and multimedia information retrieval in the field of user interfaces based on Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Extended Reality (XR), Applied Gaming (AG), Human Computer Interaction (HCI) as well as Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In particular, the support of Multimedia Information Retrieval (MMIR) applications within Metaverse-based user interfaces are important and of great interest for the research of Prof. Dr. Matthias L. Hemmje and Dr. Stefan Wagenpfeil.
