MILC Platform enters into cooperation with the EU Funded Project - MediaVerse

Munich, June 3rd, 2021

Hendrik Hey, Founder and CEO of MILC Platform, has been officially elected to the Advisory Board of the MediaVerse project. The EU-funded Innovation Action (IA) MediaVerse (Program H2020-EU.2.1.1. — Grant agreement no 957252) brings together technology developers, social researchers, media publishers, artists, and other stakeholders. Their main goal: To help all sorts of creators produce and share state-of-the-art media — while allowing them to keep control of their intellectual property rights.

The MILC Project will solve four fundamentally important challenges of the global media industry: Global availability of all Video Content, Discovery process for Buyers, Complex licensing for the entire industry, and Early feedback from its audience.

For the first time, MILC will build a bridge between the audience and the content creators, buyers, and distributors. This connection will allow the audience to directly impact and receive benefits from the creation & distribution of quality new content.

The main idea behind MediaVerse is that content creators, professionals or amateurs, will be able to easily connect to a “MediaVerse node” (MV node), i.e. a kind of server-enabled software, or set up their own, and through this MV node they will be able to import and make their content accessible in the MediaVerse network, i.e. all MediaVerse nodes that have already been set up by others. Beyond that, they will be able to determine the license of their content, so that other MediaVerse users can easily know if the content is available for use and under what terms. This decentralized approach to content sharing and exchange solves a big problem with the large media sharing platforms (say YouTube and TikTok): the fact that they act as gatekeepers and arbiters on the media content uploaded to their platforms. There have been several cases where content creators have been treated unfairly and demonetized. MediaVerse aspires to give control to content creators and make possible a level playing field in media distribution.

The MediaVerse Project and the MILC Platform strive for close technical and content cooperation. The aim is to enable developments from the MediaVerse project to be used in the industrial media environment.

MediaVerse brings together a multi-disciplinary consortium with complementary expertise on the many different and diverse aspects that are involved in MediaVerse’s ambitious design. Research institutions and universities (CERTH, LINKS, UAB) join forces with ICT companies and SMEs (ATOS, ATC, FIN, VRAG) to provide the needed research innovations and technological bricks, while traditional industry stakeholders (STXT, DW) provide valuable input to shape new age industrial requirements.

The partners represent a strong European network. A total of 6 countries are involved in the project. Among them, Greece, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and Germany. The EU has, in addition to private funds, supported the project with about 5.000.000.- EUR.

Hendrik Hey, CEO of MILC Platform:

“I am very happy to be part of this impressive network. All partners have set out to change and improve the media industry for the long term. I hope we can contribute our part to this vision and serve as a good partner for all project participants.”
